Governor Daniels, Honda executives and local officials participated in the ceremonial groundbreaking for the Greensburg Honda facility on March 19, 2007. At that point, the Honda plant estimated it would employ 2,000 people.
A Honda plant in Greensburg is adding 300 new jobs later this year in preparation for the increased production next year.
Honda Manufacturing of Indiana will invest $40 million dollars to increase annual production capacity by 50,000 units to a total of 250,000 vehicles. The company will begin building the Civic Hybrid at the Indiana plant early next year as well.
Indiana was the first Honda plant in North America to build a hybrid vehicle when it started Acura ILX Hybrid production in April.
“It‘s been fast and furious since we did introduce a second shift last October,” Senior Vice-President Bob Nelson says. “As we continue to add the diversity of our products, this has provided opportunities for our company here in Indiana.”
