A $50,000 grant from the Indiana Office of Tourism Development will help construction on a soccer complex in Kokomo finish a year earlier than expected. Mayor Greg Goodnight says the 30-field Wildcat Creek Soccer Complex will now be ready for play in 2012.
“We’re going to begin this year on putting in the parking areas and the facilities,” Goodnight says. “It’s going to be an ongoing year to year, making upgrades and such, but they’re planning on using it for their fall leagues this year.”
Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance President Jeb Conrad says the complex fills a need for additional soccer fields in the city.
“And then it opens new doors to attract tournaments and activities around the youth and young adult sports activities that our market traditionally has not been able to compete for,” he says.
The city is contributing some of the seed money for the complex, but it will be maintained in future years by private funds from the Kokomo Soccer Club.
