GM Investing Money, Creating Jobs At Bedford Plant

Officials with the company say the investment will be used to replace plant machinery and will result in the creation of about 51 jobs.

General Motors announced today Wednesday plans to invest about $49 million into its Bedford production facility.

The plant, which produces aluminum transmission housings and engine blocks, is currently under renovation. Officials with the company say the investment will be used to replace plant machinery and will result in the creation of about 51 jobs.

Production Manager Arvin Jones says the company chose to invest in the Bedford plant because of positive production data.

“Bedford was chosen,” he said, “because of its competitiveness. Both union and management working together has made this facility competitive and when a facility is competitive we invest.”

Lieutenant Governor and Bedford native Becky Skillman attended the event. She says the plant is key to Bedford’s economy.

“Announcements such as this,” she said, “provide a lot of confidence to families in the area.”

GM officials say the company plans to invest about $3 billion into its nationwide manufacturing operation over the next few years.
