“Scrambling for ECAs” Monroe County Fundraiser

The latest fundraiser for schools is a golf outing and auction courtesy of Bloomington Country Club. IU coaches Bill Lynch and Tom Crean join in the fun.

The group Give4ECAs is working to raise money and tell the community about the 400 extra-curricular activities cut from the budget throughout the Monroe County district.

“Scrambling for ECAs,” is the latest fundraiser – a golf outing and auction courtesy of Bloomington Country Club. Funds raised will be added to the 256,000 of the necessary 750,000 dollars to keep the lost extra-curricular activities.

The event brought out IU coaches Bill Lynch and Tom Crean. IU men’s basketball coach Crean understands the importance of these after school activites. “We gotta make sure that our coaches, our teachers that teach our young people drama and music and theater and all the different things that go into it, keep having the incentive that they deserve not just because they have the enthusiasm and the passion to do which is a given but because they are rewarded for it.”

Over a hundred and fifty people weathered the light showers and ninety degree heat to play a round of golf and enjoy the afternoon, while local high school golf players and coaches could assist on the course for the teams looking for an edge over the competition.

“It’s too bad that things like this happen in society today but what you see and you’ll see it tonight is an outpouring of people that say hey it happened now lets go out and make sure we can make it better and help other people,” said Crean.
