Forum Held For New Illiana Expressway

The Indiana and Illinois Departments of Transportation are seeking input from private companies.

INDOT representative Jim Pinkerton says both transportation agencies are hoping the forum will provide some innovative ways to build the expressway.

The Indiana and Illinois Departments of Transportation are talking with private companies Monday and Tuesday on the Illiana Expressway project.

INDOT spokesman Jim Pinkerton said the highway will link I-65 east of Cedar Lake in Indiana to I-55 in Illinois will be built as a public-private partnership.

“This is our opportunity to kind of gauge interest from the private sector, what kind of interest is out there in participating in a project like this. So based on the questions that are asked from these people in the industry that will coming to this forum, we’ll walk away with a better idea of the interest,” Pinkerton says. “You know, sometimes learn about the creative approaches that the private industry has that maybe INDOT hasn’t thought about at this point.”

Attendees will also have a chance to talk with project managers at the forum held near O‘Hare International Airport in Rosemont, Illinois.
