A Columbus spa will have to pay more than $10 thousand in restitution to almost a hundred customers for selling unredeemable gift cards.
Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter says the Serenity Salon and Day Spa continued selling gift cards for the 2005 holiday season, even after the owner received an eviction notice and knew the spa could be shut down. Carter prosecuted the spa, which shut down in January of 2006, and an agreement was signed requiring the spa to give all customers full refunds for services they did not receive. Carter says gift cards sold after the eviction notice violated the law.
The Serenity Salon and Spa owner has been ordered to pay $4,800 in costs for violating the law in addition to refunding the ten thousand dollars to customers. The refunds range from 40 to 300 dollars each.
