A former Army captain who works for the US State Department in Iraq has announced that he will seek the Republican nomination in northern Indiana’s second congressional district, the seat Democrat Joe Donnelly currently holds.
Chris Minor of Kokomo announced his candidacy while on a break from his job as a civilian intelligence analyst in Iraq. Minor says he felt the impact of congressional anti-war sentiment during his Army deployment in al-Anbar province. He says he’s running for Congress because lawmakers need to show greater public support for the war effort.
Minor says his assignment in Iraq will be over by mid-April, a few weeks before the 2008 primary elections. Until then, Minor says his college and high school-aged daughters will be helping him with an internet campaign that will rely heavily on social networking sites.
