Fire burned around 27-acres of McCormick Creek State Park on Friday.

Fire crews have contained a 27-acre wildfire in McCormick Creek State Park that began Friday afternoon. Officials say they do not know what caused the blaze, but no injuries have been reported.

Firefighters from the Owen County Fire Department along with fire suppression teams from the Department of Natural Resources worked to create a fire break. The DNR says the fire should now burn itself out.

Indiana Conservation Officer Chris Springstun says firefighters from various departments responded to the scene quickly.

“They were able to utilize some of their fire training techniques to put out the fire,” he says. “They burned some fire lanes and was able to use controlled burns to be able to control the fire but it is totally contained at this time.”

The park is open to visitors. Park staff says they are continuing business as usual and are preparing for a busy weekend.
