Faith Sherrill enjoys a championship level of success at Indiana University. Her performance in the shot put earned her the title of Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year, while academic achievement led to being named an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar.
The latter, named after the tennis legend, measured activity in the classroom and the playing field.
“My parents and even my grandparents have always told me academics is always first,” said Sherill. “You’ll have the athletic ability, but you’ll always want to have academics.”
Coach Jermaine Jones praised Faith’s classroom prowess and continued with an assessment of her athletic ability. “She’s a good thrower, she’s very strong, and she’s getting better at that and we have numbers already for next year. If we hit these numbers this should happen and she goes after it.”
