Eastern Howard Schools Making Up Snow Days By E-Learning

Rather than extend the school year to make up for snow days, one district is tacking on e-learning days.

Eastern Howard Schools use iPads for E-Learning.

Fifteen two hour delays and nine school cancellations if you’re keeping track at Eastern Howard School Corporation near Kokomo.

“I’ve been a superintendent for 13 years it was by far the worst winter that I’ve ever experienced,” says Dr. Tracy Caddell.

He says extending school into the summer wasn’t an option for ISTEP preparations and families with vacations already scheduled. So the district is adding e-learning days on Saturdays, two in March and two in May.

“Eastern is a K through 12 one to one iPad school corporation. Every student has an iPad, so instruction will be delivered to those students on those Saturdays with their teachers.”

The district is also holding class on two holidays and staying an additional hour on Wednesdays. That means students will still get out for the year before the beginning of June and graduation won’t have to be pushed back.
