Duke Energy's Gibson station power plant in Gibson County near Owensville, Ind., is one of the largest coal plants in the nation.
Duke Energy has agreed to a settlement limiting the charges to ratepayers for construction of the new Edwardsport generating plant. Customers will not pay the full cost of the project. Rates overall will rise about 14.5 percent, implemented over two years.
Without the settlement, the increase would have been about 22 percent. The deal includes $3.5 million to assist low-income customers and $1 million for a clean energy initiative.
