The drowning victim at Lake Monroe has been identified. Five-year-old Zack Colvin of Bedford was swimming with his older sister and cousin at the Paynetown Recreation Area Monday, when his aunt lost sight of him. He was found in five feet of water and was estimated to have been underwater for five to ten minutes. Indiana conservation officer Angie Goldman says in light of recent drowning incidents in Bloomington, the biggest piece of advice she can give parents is to make sure their children wear life jackets.
The recreation area did have a beach attendant on duty at the time of the drowning, but Goldman says that person’s job does not involve life-guarding.
