The annual Scheid Diesel Extravaganza is expected to draw more than 20,000 diesel truck enthusiasts.
Despite public safety concerns, a diesel truck festival is returning to Terre Haute this weekend. The annual Scheid Diesel Extravaganza is expected to draw more than 20,000 diesel truck enthusiasts from around the country to the Vigo County Fairgrounds. There were more than 240 arrests related to impaired driving and other misconduct during last year’s event.
The Indiana State Police, Terre Haute City Police, Vigo County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security Taskforce 7 will provide security for this year’s festival.
Vigo County Sheriff Greg Ewing says most of his resources will be spent dealing with underage drinking and traffic.
“We’ll manage traffic control around the perimeter of the fairgrounds, the traffic lights and so forth like that,” says Ewing.
The festival extends from Friday to Sunday night. It features truck shows, tractor pulls, drag racing, and a burnout competition.
