U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos spoke to thousands of students from across the country Friday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse for the 2017 National FFA Convention.

During her speech, DeVos discussed the future of agriculture and her hopes to inspire students to achieve their education through multiple avenues.

Reisz Krampe, an FFA member from Kentucky, says DeVos’ speech gave him a new perspective on breaking into the workforce.

“There’s an increasing want for jobs and the trades and everybody wants be an elite but not everybody can, so I think she did a really good job of showing us that there’s more options than just a four-year degree,” Krampe says.

The annual FFA Convention and Expo aims to foster personal and career growth through agricultural education. The four-day conference promotes leadership and educates FFA members about strengthening their local communities and American agriculture.
