The Delta Gamma cycling team won Friday the women’s Little 500 bicycle race for the second year in a row.

The team’s win in the 26th annual race makes Delta Gamma one of only six teams in Little 500 history to win back-to-back races. Second place went to Kappa Alpha Theta. Wing It placed third.

The race at the Bill Armstrong Stadium on the Indiana University campus consisted of 100 laps and lasted for a little over an hour with only one major crash.

Training for the whole year, Delta Gamma’s team of four seniors were elated by their victory.

“This is exactly the kind of finish that we wanted.” says senior Kelsey Philips, who was celebrating with her team after receiving the winning trophy.  “We worked really hard for this for four years.”

Another Delta Gamma team member senior Kayce Doog says they practiced for months and could feel the pressure going into the race.

“Once you win once, people attending [the race] think that’s good enough, but it wasn’t good enough for us,” she says. “We were winning again.”

Little 500 continues Saturday with the men’s race starting at 2:20 p.m. Delta Tau Delta will attempt to defend last year’s title.
