The welcoming ceremonies took place Tuesday afternoon for the Dalai Lama’s latest visit to Indiana. The Buddhist spiritual leader and his followers landed at Monroe County airport, and arrived at the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Center around four in the afternoon.

The 74-year old Dalai Lama is staying at the center in Bloomington and is holding teachings Wednesday and Thursday at the Indiana University Auditorium. The director of the center, Arjia Rinpoche says they built a new building called a Mane Corlo to house special prayer wheels prior to the Dalai Lama’s arrival. The site has two tent-like building that will eventually be used as classrooms beside the Mane Corlo.

The Nobel Peace Prize Laureate is also planning a public talk at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Friday. It will focus on facing life’s challenges and is open to people from all different religious backgrounds.
