About 40 people braved the cold rain to convene in Dunn Meadow at IU to protest the “Right to Work Bill” being debated at the statehouse today.
Indiana University CWA Local 4730 President Bryce Smedley, believes the people of Indiana need to safeguard their futures as well as their rights.
“What is happening in Wisconsin is happening here. Governor Daniels has attacked collective bargaining for the past six years, he’s undermined public servants who want to join unions and it’s an assault on middle class families,” said Smedley.
Thomas Moore is a PHD student at IU who believes this is not only an issue affecting teachers, but community workers as well.
“I also feel that it’s not only about the teachers, it’s about all public workers, policeman, fireman, trash collectors, all kinds that we depend on as Americans to live the life that we’re used to and that we love,” said Moore.
Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce President Mike Landram supports the legislation. He says this bill will serve as an economic tool to help create jobs.
