Crane Naval Center Changing Leadership

Colonel Charles W. Kibben will become the 14th Commander of the southern Indiana facility. He takes over from Colonel Todd R. Smith.

A ceremony at the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center Thursday marked a change in leadership. Colonel Charles W. Kibben will become the 14th Commander of the southern Indiana facility. He takes over from Colonel Todd R. Smith, who is assuming a new post in Rock Island, Illinois. Crane Public Affairs Officer Tom Peske says the ceremony passing authority from one officer to another is one of the army’s oldest traditions. A flag will be handed from the outgoing Colonel to his successor, symbolizing Kibben’s acceptance of his new responsibilities.

Peske says Kibben brings with him a wide range of experience. Kibben’s career includes stints commanding ordinance companies in Germany, teaching military science at Montana State University, and working with the 82nd Airborne Division.
