Crane Base Explosion Under Investigation

Officials say they are still investigating an explosion at Crane Army Ammunition Activity that sent five employees to the hospital.

Authorities are investigating an explosion at the Crane Army Ammunition Activity.

The explosion occurred during routine clean-up operations Thursday and involved pyrotechnic materials, according to Crane officials.

Five employees were taken to Bloomington Hospital for examination and later released Thursday evening.

The five employees were Steve Reed of Springville, Connie Alsman of Bloomfield, Janeth Shahat of Washington, Dana Roach of Bloomfield, and Jason O’Conner of Bloomfield.

Crane Army Ammunition Activity was established in 1977 and receives, stores, produces, and demilitarizes ammunition and missiles.
