As crews work to clear the remaining snow from roadways, some counties are still under an emergency travel ban.
Owen County Emergency Management Director Jack White says many roads in his county remain unsafe.
“The further you get away from Spencer, the worst the conditions are on county roads,” he says. “They have the state highways in pretty good shape, but on the county roads, some are still being described as impassable.”
The travel ban in Owen County expires at 10 p.m. Greene County also has a travel ban in place until 5 a.m.
Johnson County Emergency Management Director Stephanie Sichting say while a travel ban has been lifted there, many secondary county roads could still be dangerous.
“We want everyone to be very cautious because of the road conditions,” she says. “We have a lot of ice and slush out, and some of the roads are still snow covered.”
Both White and Sichting reiterated what many officials have been saying these past two days: if you don’t need to be out, stay in. Sichting says though roads may appear clear, black ice often forms at night, covering roadways with slick ice.
