The vacant Brown County property once occupied by For Bare Feet Sock Company may once again be put to use as early as the first of the year.
Brown County Redevelopment Commission President, Evan Werling says there are three bids on the property ranging from $150,000 to $450,000, and one should be approved in the next 10 to 15 days.
The three companies vying for the location are C & C Equipment, specializing in heavy equipment and truck parts, The Beamery, which is an architectural company making energy efficient timber frame structures, and CPS inc.
Further information on the business of CPS inc was not readily available, but Werling says all the companies would benefit Brown County in a number of ways raging from environmental friendliness and tourism to new jobs.
“It’s a combination of things, price is not the sole determine factor in who it’s going to be sold to,” says Werling
Since For Bare Feet left Brown County for Martinsville, the county has been losing nearly 17,000 dollars annually in lost insurance fees, as well as fewer jobs. Werling is confident that these bids will be a win-win situation for Brown County.
“However this ends up, we intend for it to be in the best interest of our community as a whole, as well as for the companies,” Werling says.
