Columbus childcare provider Children Incorporated will break ground Wednesday on a unique fund-raising project. Executive director Brenda Flanagan says board members were looking for a fund raiser that was outside of the box. They came up with a plan to build a house that will showcase local interior designers. Flanagan says every designer will be in charge of one room in the house once construction is complete. Children Inc. will eventually sell tickets for tours of the house before it’s sold. She says money generated will be used in a variety of ways.
Flanagan says an anonymous donor has secured the loan to pay for the house, as well as the lot the house will be built on. Wednesday’s groundbreaking will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tours of the house are slated to start in late February or early March 2008. The home will be put on the market once tours are completed. Flanagan says the non-profit organization hopes to raise $10-15,000. Children Inc. is the largest childcare provider in Bartholomew County and serves more than 400 children each year.
