New IU head football coach Kevin Wilson and his players are gearing up for a new season. Each day is full with hard work and drills to improve their game.
Wilson is still deciding on a starting quarterback for the season opener with Ball State University in about two weeks.
“You must earn it, and we’re just inconsistent with taking care of the ball,” Wilson said. With a young team this year they’re taking time to establish a leader.”
Wilson is also looking for consistency throughout camp. Sophomore wide receiver Deaundre Muhammad says there are some challenges on the field that the team is working through.
“Just like coach said do your best every day,” Muhammed said. “That’s my goal just to come to practice, beat the system and do it every single day.”
The Hoosiers now have 13 practices under their belts. Kofi Hughes, also a sophomore wide receiver, says the emphasis on finishing hard is necessary to win games.
“Toward the end of practice we’re all dog tired, and it’s a big mental thing,” he says, emphasizing that the mental focus will help them in the game. “In the fourth quarter we haven’t really been known for finishing the game. Coach Wilson is really forcing us to finish the game.”
Wilson says he is emphasizing speed, good tackles and for the team to hold on to the ball.
