Installing solar panels on city buildings has been on the capital improvements projects list for a couple of years.

City of Bloomington Sustainability Coordinator Jacqui Bauer says the price of solar power has come down by more than 50 percent.

“We kind of dropped energy usage here and were hoping to kind of shave off more from producing our own energy on the building itself,” she says.

The project will begin next year. It is expected to take two to three years and nearly $1 million to complete.
