Speaking at the headquarters of American Legion in Indianapolis Thursday afternoon, Vice President Dick Cheney said the Bush Administration is renewing its vow to fight the War in Iraq. Cheney said wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will not drag on indefinitely, but will eventually produce clear victories. He urged the Legionnaires in attendance to use their positions in their communities to argue on behalf of the US war effort.
Cheney said that US leadership is under no illusions that Iraq will become “a perfect democracy overnight.” But he added it would be even more dangerous to believe the US responsibility in the Middle East ended when it occupied Iraq and captured Saddam Hussein. Cheney said that Islamic terrorists declared themselves at war with the US years before 9/11. He said he views the war in Iraq as part of the same struggle.
