The housing market is seeing its biggest boost in several years, largely attributed to the building of new homes.

The central Indiana housing market is booming, and experts said it is a sign that the state of the economy is improving.

Experts say construction of new homes in Johnson County is off to its fastest start in five years, and the number of single-family homes built increased by 83 percent in February, compared to the same month in 2011. According to Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis figures that compare February 2011 to February 2012, central Indiana has seen a 40 percent increase in the number of issued building permits.
