Primary Elections Filing Opens

Candidates for mayor, city clerk and other positions could officially declare their candidacy starting Wednesday.

Wednesday was a busy day for Monroe County clerk Linda Robbins.

“Right now we have a slew of people coming in,” Robbins said.

Starting Wednesday, candidates for mayor, city clerk and other positions could officially declare their candidacy.

“It’s just a simple piece of paper they fill out and they say what their name is and what they’d like to run for.”

Newly elected officials had until noon Wednesday to file their financial reports which show how they collected and spent their money during their campaign. Marty Hawk was elected to the Monroe County Council in November and made it just under the wire.

“And after doing all that I have 285 dollars left!” she said.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the only candidate to file in Monroe County was incumbent Mark Kruzan. The deadline to file is February 18th.
