Camp Atterbury To Break Ground On Expansion

Camp Atterbury plans to break ground on its new expansion this week.

An expansion that will provide more space for training at Camp Atterbury is slated to break ground this week.

A new four building unit will help Camp Atterbury military base move more people through the Operational Readiness Training Complex. According to Camp Atterbury Deputy Director Montell Johnson II, the $60 million addition will give the complex space to house more than 1,000 additional people.

“The intent is for mobilization of a large unit be able to house them and get them through, that’s what Atterbury specializes in moving people through,” Johnson says. “The facility also demobilizes people at a centralized location where they have everything they need, such as ranges, to prepare for going overseas.”

Johnson says it will take about three weeks to clear the area for the expansion so construction can begin. The project is slated to be complete in late fall of 2014.
