The 45/46 bypass construction in Bloomington is right on schedule, but officials say motorists shouldn’t expect traffic flow to return to normal until the expansion’s completion in 2012. INDOT project engineer Darren Parkes says traffic interruptions have been relatively minimal so far.
“Our first big hiccup was we had was when we did restrictions on Walnut Street a couple weeks ago,” he says. “Between that and having Dunn Street close we had some issues, but that was short lived. We had to close it again Monday to finish up some work, but we had it open for the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend.”
Parke says he’s hoping the most disruptive work will be done in the summer .
“We’ll be doing closures at Dunn Street, Fee Lane and Mattlock and at 17th Street,” he says, “to to rebuild those intersections and we will try to do the majority of that work when the IU students are out.”
Parkes says most of the work, including moving utilities and doing some resurfacing, is taking place on the west end. Parkes says by this time next year he expects most of the work from 37 to 17th street to be complete.
