The BP at 17th and College is one of hundreds of stations that received tainted high-test fuel.

BP has announced that the recall of premium and mid-grade gasoline now includes several stations in Bloomington and surrounding areas.

BP says the fuel was refined at its Whiting refinery during a four-day period in mid-August. The fuel contained a high amount of polymeric residue, which can cause problems with a vehicle’s fuel delivery system.

The problem at the refinery has been fixed, BP says, and one Bloomington station says the fuel in its tanks is now filled with properly refined gasoline.

BP has set up a website for consumers who purchased the tainted fuel. It contains information on how to file a claim so BP can reimburse customers who need to repair their vehicle after using the 89 and 93 octane fuels. It also includes a searchable database of affected stations.
