Bloomington YMCA Plans Expansion to Meet Demand

Bloomington’s YMCA is planning to expand due to the increasing demand from the city.

Bloomington’s YMCA is expanding to meet increasing demand from the city. YMCA leaders will hold open houses over the next three weeks to discuss proposed plans for expanding the current facility on the city’s south side. But since the project would depends mainly on donations, the plans are still in flux.

Board of Directors President Mary Clare Bauman said the direction the project goes depends on the support of the community.

“We have something in mind that we think it would really fit the needs of the community and of our members. If the members look at those plans and if they feel like that’s what they can do, hopefully the support will be there.”

Current plans would expand the Y’s pool and locker rooms to make them better able to handle large, family-oriented activities.

This is great! I use the YMCA all of the time and have been a long time member (although I do let the membership expire in summer time). I have met so many great people through the YMCA mostly by playing racquetball and am no involved with another member in teaching the young kids at the YMCA how to play racquetball. I would like to see more space for other activities and would like to stress the importance of the racquetball program at the YMCA to me, my family, and to the 8 kids that we are currently teaching in the class right now. Thanks for covering this….
