Bryan Park Pool will have limited hours during its last week of operation for the season.
The City of Bloomington’s public pools will be operating on a limited schedule starting today.
Both Bryan Park and Mills pools are limiting their weekday operating hours from now until the end of the season, August 29th. Director of Bloomington Park and Rec, Mick Renneisen, says the decision was made last year.
“We had seen a couple of trends,” Renneisen says. “First, a tremendous drop off in patron usage of the pools in the last week when schools start.” Finding labor once school starts is also an issue. “We have a big challenge with having enough lifegaurds manning the pools with the proper staffing ratios,” Renneisen explains.
Bloomington pools are actually open longer than many other area pools, some of which closed August 8th. Martinsville, Bedford, and most Indianapolis pools are already closed for the season.
The summer’s hot dry weather brought more people to the pool than last season, and pool revenues are up an estimated $100,000 this year.
