Audience members used the majority of their question-and-answer time to raise concerns about the possible departure of the former Bloomington Hospital. Incumbent Mark Kruzan described the issue as an ongoing matter of negotiation between the city of Bloomington and IU Health.
“This hospital’s fate really rest in the hands of Indianapolis decision makers, not Bloomington decision makers,” said Kruzan.
Kruzan’s opponent in the May primaries, John Hamilton, said he hopes to increase community support and involvement as a means of pressuring the health center to remain in Bloomington.
“How do we hold onto 2,500 good jobs, clean jobs, in a growing sector of our economy,” said Hamilton.
The meeting was not a formal debate. Bloomington’s third candidate, John Gusan, was also invited to the event, but was unable to attend. A formal televised debate between the candidates will take place April 21st on WTIU.
