A group has formed the Arts Alliance of Bloomington to represent the needs of local artists.

A new organization in Bloomington is centered on reflecting the needs and ideas of artists.  Organizers made the decision this week to establish the Arts Alliance of Greater Bloomington.  Discussions began several months ago about the need for a new arts organization in Bloomington.  What’s resulted after all the talks is a group of artists and even non artists who plan to work together to increase communication within the arts community and with outside groups.  Steering committee member Patsy Rahn says there’s a lot of excitement because nothing like this has ever been done before in Bloomington.

“It’s exciting on two fronts:  one for the artists themselves within the artistic community and the connection that can be made now between the actual artist and their needs and desires and inspirations and these outside groups that can be very helpful.”

The Alliance is divided into four groups:  visual arts, performance arts, literature, and festivals.  The groups will work with major organizations such as the City of Bloomington or Indiana University.  According to a press release an example of some of the initiatives the Alliance may look at are affordable performance and studio space and insurance coverage for artists.

The Alliance is in the process of forming guilds that will work to advance the group.  Rahn says in terms of events, the Alliance doesn’t have anything planned just yet because they’re still working on a lot of the structural things.
