Indiana State Police arrest Bedford officer for theft and official misconduct.

A Bedford Police Officer is facing preliminary charges of official misconduct and theft for allegedly stealing money.

Indiana State Police arrested officer Edward E. Allen and are investigating.

State Police Public Information Officer Sergeant Curt Durnil says Allen was caught on camera committing the crime.

“There was video evidence as depicted in the probable cause affidavit, of Officer Allen taking a twenty dollar bill from a billfold of a person he was arresting at the Lawrence county jail and placing that twenty dollar bill inside of his own billfold,” Durnil says.

Durnil says the Bedford Police Department reached out Indiana State Police to conduct the investigation.

Allen is on unpaid leave as a result of the investigation.
