The former CEO of Central Indiana’s Fifth Third Bank is taking over the state Department of Revenue as its new commissioner.
Governor Mitch Daniels Friday appointed Mike Alley as the new head of the Department of Revenue to replace outgoing commissioner John Eckart. Eckart resigned last week after the discovery of a programming error that mistakenly withheld more than $200 million of local income taxes from counties.
In addition to his position at Fifth Third, Alley is the former CEO of Integra Bank Corporation in Evansville and currently the president of the Indiana State University board of trustees. Eckart will stay on at the Revenue Department until Alley assumes his new post in May.
