Columbus could be in line for foreign investment cultivated on a recent trip by Mayor Fred Armstrong.

Columbus mayor Fred Armstrong says his recent economic development trip to Asia will soon produce a visit from potential investors.   On Wednesday, Mayor Armstrong received a promising communiqué from one of his Asian counterparts whom he’d visited just a couple months ago.

“We, today in fact, received an e-mail from a city that we visited in China.  And they are coming over next month with a large group of investors and they are looking at some investment opportunities in Columbus,” the mayor said.

Armstrong said he has not received start and end dates for the trip, nor could he say for sure what type of investment the city or the state might reap from the trip.  But Armstrong did say his goal is that the investors not leave the state without a commitment of some kind.

“We don’t care if other people want to help borrow from us.  If they want to visit other places in Indiana, we would certainly hope that they would look at Indiana.  Because if we don’t get them, we want Indiana to get them.”

Armstrong said he assumes any potential investment would trend toward light manufacturing, adding he’ll know more details after the first of the year.
