Ice and Snow caused a canopy covering one of the airport's parking garages to collapse.
Part of the parking garage at the Indianapolis International airport remains closed after the canopy covering it collapsed under the weight of accumulated snow and ice. Spokesperson Susan Sullivan says three sections of the canopy covering the top level ripped through Saturday night causing snow and ice to fall damaging some rental cars. No injuries were reported after the collapse.
“We’re keeping a close eye on it. It’s possible we could have more of the fabric tear and rip but we think that by the section that did collapse, it did release some of the tension or the pressure,” said Sullivan.
Airport visitors wanting to retrieve their vehicle from the garage can, but parking has been prohibited until the safety of the area is determined. People can still park in the service, economy, or long-term lots.
