Storms in the Northeast are causing some airlines to allow flexible holiday travelers to change their flights this week.

Indianapolis International Airport spokesperson Carlo Bertolini says travelers should call their airline to see if they are amending their policies this week.

Indianapolis International Airport Spokesman Carlo Bertolini says several airlines are relaxing their flight schedule policies with no penalties to travelers this Thanksgiving as winter weather on the East Coast has delayed many flights.

“For people who may have more flexibility with their travel, this gives them the opportunity to contact the airline and perhaps delay their travel by a day or two, or sometimes even longer, depending on the window the airline establishes,” says Bertolini.

Indianapolis International Airport has more than two dozen daily departures that serve the Northeast — New York, Philadelphia and Boston, among other destinations. But Bertolini says so far Wednesday, the airline has seen less than a half-dozen cancellations of flights bound for New York or coming from the Northeast.

He says passengers should call ahead if they’d like to reschedule with their airlines.
