A process underway now will give a detailed picture of the agricultural industry in the United States. The Census of Agriculture collects information every five years and releases state and county specific figures.
Farmers and ranchers are being surveyed between now and Feb. 4.
Greg Matli with the National Agricultural Statistics Service in Indiana says the census is the go-to source for reliable data.
He says it collects information on production and acreage, as well as energy sources, organic operations, and specialty crops and livestock.
This year’s census data will be released in February 2014
