On Tuesday, Franklin College will host the first of two 9th district congressional debates between incumbent Republican Todd Young and Democrat Shelli Yoder.
Statistics show young voters typically don’t go to the polls in large numbers. But Shelli Yoder’s Campaign Manager Katie Carlson feels the students who will ask questions in the first of two 9th District debates will address the issues impacting their future.
“Just because students are younger or you know maybe not the largest voting bloc, they’re still asking the right questions,” Carlson says.
Todd Young’s Campaign Manager Trevor Foughty says the next Congressman’s policies will have a noticeable effect on today’s students.
“We think it’s important to engage young people to talk about those sorts of issues and what our plans are to help get the economy moving so they can find jobs when they graduate,” Foughty says.
The debate will be held at Franklin College’s Théâtre Margot in the Johnson Center for Fine Arts from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
Franklin College is live streaming the debate.
