A tree limb weighed down with snow and ice fell overnight Tuesday.
Several thousand people are without electricity mostly because of the weight of ice on power lines. As of about an hour ago nearly 50,000 Duke Energy customers were without power – about 8,500 of those were in Monroe County alone. Duke does have numerous crews out working to get power restored including trucks from North Carolina and South Carolina.
About 5000 customers serviced by Rural Electric Membership Cooperative or REMC are without power. About half of those are in Brown County.
You can find a map of REMC power outages here.
A list of current Duke Energy outages is available here.
