Moment of Indiana History
Time was, a squirrel could cross Indiana by jumping from one tree to another, without touching the ground. Or so the legend goes.
During the late 19 th century, southeastern Indiana came to specialize in an industry it still dominates. Its forests supplying the raw materials and a concentration of German immigrant artisans providing the craftsmanship, the area became known for furniture manufacture.
A “Hoosier” is one of the most sought-after collectibles. The name refers to a multi-use kitchen cabinet produced by the Hoosier Manufacturing Company.
