Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett discusses recent community involvement meetings with the Federal prison in Terre Haute. Representatives of the prison are meeting with members of the community to share information.
Bennett reports that local elections are costing $538,000 to meet all of the new federal mandates. The mayor is looking for ways to reduce the strain these costs have imposed on the city budget. There are only about 12,000 voters in the area.
The mayor also discussed how recent developments in Blu-ray technology have been a boon for the city because the Sony Corporation represents a significant part of the Terre Haute economy.
The administration is keeping a close eye on litigation regarding ground water contamination at Standard Register. Residents in the area have lodged complaints and tests of some of the wells in the area have shown contamination.
