Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight

Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight discusses budget cut options and says that employee layoffs and across the board budget cuts may be required.

Problems and opportunities of annexation plans were discussed. The Continental Steel 80 acre site located in the central area of the city is being cleaned up and reuse options are being considered. Tree planting on the site is being considered. The site is close to existing parks. It is still privately owned but at some point it may be developed by the city for public use.

Tornado warning systems were discussed. The reverse 911 system appears to be the most effect solution. Tornado warning sirens are costly and have limited effectiveness.

Community Development block grant funds will be used to refurbish homes in the gateway areas to downtown. The exterior of homes in the area will receive up to $20,000 for each home. Total money available for this project is $970,000.
