Columbus Program Manager for Community Development Jim Clouse says the city is receiving federal funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for block grants to upgrade housing in the Columbus area. The funds are intended to help replace inefficient and dangerous heating and cooling systems, and roofs.
The city is spending $4 million on a parking garage for the Commons Mall development. Bennett says the site is being developed by Cummins using a 6-year tax abatement grant which he justified as an incentive program offered to the Cummins Office Complex which will ultimately benefit the local community.
