Bloomington’s mayor says it’s important to keep raises found in this year’s city budget in perspective. Speaking on WFIU’s “Ask the Mayor,” Mark Kruzan said most of the money being spent on pay hikes is a result of collective bargaining agreements in place long before this year’s budget was crafted. Of the 700 city employees, Kruzan said, about 340 are not covered by a union and will therefore be subject to the citywide increase of 1.5% if the budget meets with final approval from the Bloomington City Council.
