City-wide smoking ban goes into effect June 1st.

Last night Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard has signed the recently passed city-wide smoking ban into law. The smoking ban will go into effect at 6 a.m. on June 1.Ballard‘s spokesman Marc Lotter says leading up to that date, the mayor‘s office will be helping businesses get ready. The new smoking ban exempts cigar and hookah bars, retail tobacco stores, off-track betting facilities, private clubs and veterans halls. Lotter says the mayor was very happy that City-County Councilor John Barth worked closely with the mayor‘s office to draft language that “respected the rights of private clubs.”
