Focus On Flowers
A native of the Mediterranean region, it resists settling into Midwestern gardens unless we pamper it a bit.
A good edging plant, and one that thrives in window boxes, hanging baskets and places that need a summer groundcover, is "Portulaca grandiflora."
You can plant many varieties of lily bulbs to have continuous bloom from late May into August.
If you are looking for a plant to play with and have a young child handy you can count chickens and group chickens and make up stories about them.
