Year in Review

In an effort to help stimulate the economy and give a hand to America's struggling automobile companies, the US Government this year gave us the Car Allowance Rebate System, more commonly known as the "Cash for Clunkers" program. "Cash for Clunkers" helped stimulate the economy by boosting auto sales while putting safer, cleaner and more fuel-efficient vehicles on the roadways. A huge number of people turned out to trade in their old cars and take more than a "short ride" in their newer, faster machines. Who knows? Maybe those classical music-loving car owners rocked out in their new toys to John Adam's minimalist hit, which was commissioned by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra for the opening concert of the 1986 Great Woods Festival in Mansfield, Massachusetts.
